For three weeks, after May 29th, 2008, ten young Canadians will take an expedition with Navegar Amazônia Project throughout the Amazon River. They will get to know the fauna, flora and the Amazon people. The journey will take the group up to Bailique, at the State of Amapá and Cupuaçu e Curuçá at the State of Pará, where they will participate on social and environmental activities on social projects that will be implemented by the Brazilian partners of Canadian NGO EcoMaris. They will discover how these communities protect and utilize the vital resource which surrounds them: water.
After they get their feet wet, the young Canadians will invite a group of young Brazilians from the communities to come on board the Navegar Amazônia ship, so as to discover new places. On the ship, during the long navigation hours, the young Brazilians, helped by the Canadians, will be able to learn the basics of new technologies, thanks to the informatics and cinematographic equipment on board. This equipment will allow us to spread the human, cultural and environmental aspects of the expedition, while connected live to the Biodôme de Montreal, as well as to the EcoMaris and Navegar Amazônia websites. The youngsters will be able to participate in several workshops offered by the local partners.
The goals of the expedition:
To establish an international partnership between Navegar Amazônia and EcoMaris, allowing young Canadians to:
- Understand the Amazon eco-system workings;
- Observe the human activities and regional development impacts on the Amazon eco-systems workings;
- Discuss the Amazon’s sustainable development management and strategies;
- Develop a systemic vision on the environmental problems;
- Discover new learning and knowledge transmission methods.
