Navegar Amazônia has been awarded the Prêmio Escola Viva (Live School Award) during Teia 2007 at Belo Horizonte, in the State of Minas Gerais. The Prêmio Escola Viva belongs to Prêmio Cultura Viva (Live Culture Award) and was given to the Pontos de Cultura (Culture Locations) that ranked in the semi-final phase of Prêmio Cultura Viva.
The Prêmio Cultura Viva integrates the Programa Nacional de Cultura, Educação e Cidadania – Cultura Viva (Culture, Education and Citizenship National Program – Live Culture), developed by the MinC – Ministry of Culture. As it recognizes the plural dimensionality of the cultural experience, MinC searches to strengthen and amplify the complexity of cultural contemporary experiences in a way that enables each ethnic group, to identify their way of living and their values with its own cultural practices. The award offers to serve these initiatives, and to amplify the access to means of formation, creation, diffusion and cultural fruition through the action of cultural agents, art-educators, street educators, artists, teachers and citizens, who understand culture in its broader sense: as a right, as a type of behavior and as economy.
Created by the Ministry of Culture and counting on Cenpec’s technical coordination (Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas em Educação, Cultura e Ação Comunitária – Study and Research Center of Education, Culture and Community Action), the Prêmio Cultura Viva will favor the country’s recognition, mapping and publicizing of culture diversity. Not only it will recognize the better practices, but will also endow the country with modern and democratic cultural policy instruments.
