Navegar Amazônia

A matita perê, Tauerea-açu. Foto: Mario MirandaThe 50 minute documentary Navegar Amazônia – Uma viagem com Jorge Mautner (Navegar Amazônia – A voyage with Jorge Mautner), directed by Jorge Bodanzky and Evaldo Mocarzel, registers one of the trips of the Project. In March, 2006, bringing 30 people aboard on a regional boat equipped with a modern multimedia lab, Navegar Amazônia´s team left Canal de Jandiá (Jandiá Channel), in Macapá, towards Belém. Besides our musicians Jorge Mautner, Nelson Jacobina and Zé Miguel (from Macapá), there were other guests: the movie-makers Evaldo Mocarzel and Jorge Bodanzky (including Beto Lacerda, coordinator of Navegar Amazônia), the photographers Dario Chiaverini and Mario Miranda, Fabrício do Canto and his family (one of the founders of the project Nomadic University), Gilson Schwartz (coordinator of the project Cidade do Conhecimento [City of Wisdom] /USP) and others. Our goal was to promote, along all the course that involved the cities Abaetetuba and Tauerá-açu, in Pará, workshops focused on music, cinema, photography, video and arts to the riverbank people, visited by us.

In Belém, the celebration of the beginning of the activities counted on a magnificent show that brought to scene indigenous habits and Master Verequete (king of carimbó*), Jorge Mautner, Jacobina and Zé Miguel. Later on, there was an interaction with inhabitants of the communities, participants of the workshops, remnants of the quilombos, who received the actions of Navegar Amazônia very well. During the workshops, they sang, danced, produced songs, videos and photos.

That is Navegar Amazônia, a communication and exchange program, that catches and transmits Amazon contents, in a single way: from the heart of the forest and of the rivers to the world.
The documental DVD will present – in full – bonus features of Amazon cultural manifestations: ladainha em latim, tiração de reis, tambor de Mina, pajelança, etc.
